JustPeace Celebrates 10th Anniversary

JustPeace turns 10!

To mark this important anniversary, JustPeace gathered together its board of directors and some of the key people who have been part of the life of JustPeace since its inception in 2000.  We met at Boston University’s School of Law for two days of celebration, reflection and discernment.

We have attempted to capture some of the spirit of the event in video and photos that you can find below.  There will be more video added in the coming weeks, so be sure to check back.

We also invite you to add your own reflections about the past, present and future of JustPeace by responding to these discernment questions.

Mary Logan’s reflection about the past and future of JustPeace

Mary K. Logan who was then the chief legal councel to the General Council on Finance and Administration (GCFA) of the United Methodist church, was one of the “midwives of JustPeace” in 2000.  In this video, she reflects on the beginning of JustPeace and her hopes of JustPeace going forward.  Logan is now the President of the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI).

Share Your Reflections

We encourage you to add your voice to the future of JustPeace by either reflecting on the best of JustPeace throughout the past 10 years, or by reflecting on your hopes and dreams for the ministry of JustPeace going forward into the next 10 years.  Please see the Discernment Questions listed below.

Thank you for your time and contribution!

Tom Porter has recently said, in anticipation of the anniversary celebration:

“The best years are yet to come!”

and

“We’ve never been needed more!”

With those provocative comments to spark our creative conversation, and please take some time to reflect on these questions prior to the November celebration.

Questions

1. The “best” for the future inevitably builds on the “best” of past and present. How would you describe the best of the past and present of JustPeace? What has been most significant about the first 10 years of JustPeace mission and work in the church and in the world?

2. When you hear the expression, “We’ve never been needed more!” what do you think of? What are the arenas in which JustPeace is needed in the next 10 years? Where do “the best” of past and present connect with the needs of the future to move us into that future?

3. In all of this reflection, consider “What are God’s yearnings for JustPeace?”
