A Call for Peacemaking
Happy International Day of Peace! Observed on the 21st of September, the International Day of Peace (IDP) is a global call for peace, ceasefire and non-violence and has been sponsored by the United Nations General Assembly since 1981. Click here to learn more about IDP.
To commemorate this special day, JustPeace is happy to debut a new section of our website - “A Call for Peacemaking”.
“A Call for Peacemaking” is a cooperative initiative within the United Methodist Church to respond to Resolution 6091, “A Call for Peacemaking” found on pages 850-851 of The 2008 Book of Resolutions of the United Methodist Church. You can read the entire resolution here.
The resolution, which was passed by the 2008 General Conference, calls on:
“United Methodist children, youth and adults as devoted disciples of Jesus Christ to become peacemakers wherever they are – at home, school, work, in the local community and the wider world – and to show love, compassion, and concern for justice that Jesus taught and lived.”
Consistent with the resolution, this new section of our website is designed to be both education and inspirational, providing a variety of portals for a spectrum of United Methodists to explore the Call for Peacemaking.
We invite you to visit this web resource and explore the many stories, articles and resources that exemplify United Methodist peacemaking. We also encourage you to submit your own story of peacemaking. We know that many stories go untold, but as dedicated peacemakers across the United Methodist connection, we invite you to share with others the great work being done in your home, local church and annual conference related to peacemaking.
This website will be an ongoing project with new information and stories added regularly.
Be sure to check back often!
