In January, Krista Tippett began a new project called the Civil Conversation Project – an ongoing series of radio shows and a website that yearns for new and better way “to speak and listen to each other, to live forward together, even while holding passionate disagreements.”

The United Methodist Women have put together a video of an interfaith conversation led by Harriet Olson, Deputy General Secretary of the United Methodist Women, on what the Christian, Muslim, and Jewish communities have experienced together since 9/11.

Coming this Fall on PBS, will be a bold new mini-series, Women, War & Peace. The series, which begins in October 2011, challenges “the conventional wisdom that war and peace are men’s domain and to place women at the center of an urgent dialogue about conflict and security.”

Schools of Christian Mission are taking place across the country this summer to study The Journey: Forgiveness, Restorative Justice and Reconciliation. Find out where a school is taking place near you. The schools are open to everyone.

Here’s something we should already know if we have any familiarity with Jesus’ teachings: Christianity is built on forgiveness. It is fundamental to the faith, not a marginal, optional idea.

Why forgive? Christians forgive (when we do actually forgive) because Jesus taught us to, and showed us how. Perhaps at some deep level we all know forgiveness is the right thing, the thing that might pull our world out of the cesspool of wars, torture and racial/religious hatred.

During the summer months of Schools of Christian Mission until International Day of Peace on September 21, you are invited to participate in Prayers and Actions for Peace as an expression of reconciliation.

Women involved in peacebuilding tend to gravitate to efforts that entail sustained interfaith and intrafaith relationship building, approaching peace work from a holistic perspective that highlights the community.
