Who We Are

JustPeace – The Conversation Continues…Dialogue from #1 – the first of four important topics emerging from the CUMC JustPeace process.

Who we say we are…

The picture emerging from those who participated in the JustPeace dialogue process (through circles or written feedback) indicates that CUMC members were connected and stay connected in a variety of ways.   Although there is diversity of experience, responses clustered predominately around:

a) Family/Church Connections – those who became connected and stay connected through their own family or relatives who belonged to CUMC;

b)  Clemson University Connections – those (faculty, student, etc) who became connected and stay connected through ministry or relationship connections at Clemson University, including but not limited to the the Wesley Foundation ministries;

c) Heritage/United Methodist Connections - those who became connected and have stayed connected through their own faith traditions and heritage – historically with this being the only “Methodist” church in town;

d) Open and Caring Connections and in Service to Community – those who found CUMC to be a welcoming place and experience CUMC as a caring presence in outreach to the community;

e)  Children, Youth and Family Ministry Connections – those who became connected or stay connected through their involvement with children, youth or family ministries – with a particular emphasis on that which is available at CUMC for children and youth;

f) Other personal connections with friends, neighbors, ministers involved with CUMC.

Who we Are – Our CUMC Identity…

1. Much of the feedback and conversation highlighted diversity of experience, theology, age, and ministry related to CUMC. Consider the following statement: Diversity is a strength of CUMC and it would be helpful to learn more from one another. Please check what best describes your response:

 Strongly Agree Agree Disagree Strongly Disagree

2. Open and welcoming to all was a value that emerged often in the feedback and circle conversations although not all indicated an experience of CUMC as open, welcoming and caring. Consider the following statement: Although we may have more to learn from one another, being open and welcoming is a core value of CUMC. Please check what best describes your response:

 Strongly Agree Agree Disagree  Strongly Disagree

3. CUMC Loving God and Neighbor was an underlying theme of our feedback and conversation. Some yearned for CUMC to explore more deeply "Who is God?" through Bible study, prayer and worship. Others yearned to know more fully "Who is our neighbor?" through caring outreach. While both are important, is there one that you would prefer CUMC give attention to at this time? Please check your preference.

I want CUMC to explore more deeply:
 Who is God? Who is our neighbor?
