Relational Covenants
The Biblical experiences of God were always in covenant relationships, beginning with the covenant with Abraham through whom God intended to bless all the peoples of the earth; then the covenant with Israel; and then the covenant with Jesus Christ that built on and fulfilled the covenants that preceded it. In the Bible there are also covenants between people. A covenant involves honoring the other parties. A covenant requires mutual accountability and responsibility. A relational covenant is the shared expectations and aspirations of a community or group as to how each member wants to be treated in the life of the community.
