Communities of Shalom
The Communities of Shalom initiative began as a response to the conditions that impelled, and the aftermath of the Los Angeles rioting in 1992. An original Community of Shalom was created by the United Methodist Church in Los Angeles. Since then, the model has been replicated all throughout the world and now Communities of Shalom now exist in 40 annual conferences, as well as various Central Conferences.
Communities of Shalom seeks to build community, weave unity, and transform the world one community at a time. Shalom teams engage congregations and communities to build a future of hope and peace together through multi-cultural, multi-faith, collaboration and asset-based community development.
